Spring cleaning – isn’t it addictive!
If you are anything like me, then you will clean right down to the silverware! I remember the smell of Silvo at Christmas in preparation for the midday feast, the table was always set with the finest silver on a lace table cloth. Oh the memories.
That polish really had a potent smell, although granted it did the trick.
Today I wanted to share with you an amazing way to clean your silver without the nasty chemicals – full credit goes to my lovely house mate for sharing this life changing method!
What you will need
- Baking Soda
- Aluminium Foil
- Kitchen tongs
- Place enough Aluminium foil in the saucepan to cover the bottom and the sides
- Bring enough water to the boil that will cover your item
- Add 1 tablespoon of baking soda
- Place your tainted silver items in the boiling water*
- Remove item/s with tongs
Satisfaction ratings will be at an all time high when you see these results!
*I would not recommend trying this technique on items that have stones or gems fixed with glue.

Don’t you just love this silver jug I picked up on my recent trip to London. I absolutely love getting the chance to charity shop when I visit. There are so many english gems to be found.
I knew this jug required some love and now that the tarnish has been removed it looks brand new!
For an extra gleaming result you can use everyday toothpaste and a clean cloth!
